As the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 draws closer, the Indian Cricket Team remains focused on their training camp in Alur. Amidst the preparations, KL Rahul’s recovery from injury takes center stage, while the team gets ready to depart for Sri Lanka on Tuesday, 29th August.
Having enjoyed a day of rest on Sunday, the players engaged in team meetings and Dexa tests as part of their comprehensive training regime. However, all eyes are on KL Rahul, who is diligently working towards regaining his 100% fitness. The 31-year-old cricketer underwent a hamstring surgery and is in the process of a careful recovery. Despite undergoing intense wicketkeeping practice sessions, Rahul experienced some discomfort and has been ruled out of the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash. Nevertheless, reports indicate that both the team and the medical staff are satisfied with Rahul’s progress.
KL Rahul is scheduled for more wicketkeeping practices on Monday, the day prior to the team’s departure to Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue are all set to commence their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan in Kandy.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, who was nursing a back injury, has also shown signs of successful recovery. While Iyer’s fitness journey is positive, KL Rahul is determined to return to international cricket after a three-month hiatus and is expected to be fully prepared to take on wicketkeeping duties for India in the latter part of the tournament.
BCCI Selection Chairman, Ajit Agarkar, clarified earlier that Rahul would miss the crucial India vs Pakistan clash due to a minor injury concern. Consequently, Ishan Kishan will step in behind the stumps for the game. Additionally, India boasts backup options like Sanju Samson as a traveling reserve. With Rahul’s gradual improvement, optimism surrounds his potential fitness for the upcoming Nepal game.
In further developments, Jasprit Bumrah and other cricketers who participated in the India vs Ireland T20I series will join the training camp on Monday. They are expected to undergo match practice sessions before embarking on their journey to Sri Lanka on Tuesday, August 29th. The Indian Cricket Team’s preparations and unity stand as a testament to their commitment and determination as they gear up for the highly anticipated Asia Cup.
